Stackviewer - Medical Image Stacks
Scroll through stacks of medical images in Moodle™, like radiological DICOM software. Built for FMS and released as a free community plugin.

Case Studies
Stackviewer is a Moodle™ course activity that lets teachers present images as a scrollable stack. Students scroll through the stack the way radiologists scroll through DICOM studies, which makes it ideal for medical education with Ultrasound, MRI and CT imagery for diagnostic training. The images in a stack are numbered automatically, so teacher and students can discuss exactly which image they are looking at.
The development of Stackviewer was commissioned by the Association of Medical Specialists (Federatie Medisch Specialisten) in the Netherlands. Together with Avetica we built the plugin: Ldesign Media did the development, and the result was handed over to FMS as lead maintainer. It is now available to medical teachers worldwide as a free plugin on the Moodle™ Marketplace, where it received the Privacy friendly award.
Next to the activity module we developed Filter stackview, a companion filter that turns a simple shortcode like [[stackview 3]] into an embedded stack. That way a stack can be placed anywhere in a course: in a page, a book chapter or a label. The viewer is based on a tweaked version of slick.js, supports touch events and navigation buttons, and accepts JPEG, PNG, SVG and GIF images with no limit on the number of images per stack.
Stackviewer stores no personal data (GDPR null provider) and is translated into English and Dutch.
